6/6/2007 - AFS Malaysia Celebrates Teachers’ Day with the Prime Minister
The Teachers Day celebration was held in Johor Bahru this year from the 15th to the 17th of May at the Persada Convention Centre. AFS Antarabudaya Malaysia set up a booth to promote High School Programmes and Educators Exchange Programmes. Students Beita from Belgium and Monica from Australia were on hand to educate teachers about the work that AFS is doing. Ms Shobha Devi, who went to Egypt on Educators Exchange also stopped by the booth and shared her photos and materials of her exchange days in Egypt. The booth was also visited by the Minister of Education, Datuk Hishamuddin, who took time to have a chat with Beita. He then took some time to look through the AFS Exchange Guide and wished AFS all the best in promoting our mission.

It was on the third day of the celebration and Beita and Monica had the chance of a lifetime: to meet the Prime Minister. “He listened interested and when he heard that I had a Malay name he thought about giving Monica one too!” Beita recalled. “He decided to name her Mina, the faithful. After this we said goodbye and made our way downstairs, walking on clouds because of the memorable impression of our meeting with the PM.”
